Our Familymoon

Since our wedding ended up happening on April 5th, we went on a "familymoon" before we went on our honeymoon.  We will be doing that too (in July) but it was great to be able to spend a whole week together as a family.  I'm not sure there is a way better than that to strengthen our relationship with one another and with our kids.  It really gave the kids an opportunity to settle into this new situation, and we watched them act more and more like siblings as the week went on.

On our way up to Barrie, Ontario, we stopped at the Toronto Zoo.  It was great and I took lots of pictures on my phone...which unfortunately, I lost by the end of the day.  You will just have to take my word for it that we all had a good time :-)

We stayed at a resort in Barrie where we got to have a "condo" with 2 bedrooms and a full kitchen.  It was like a home away from home - only with a fireplace!  We spent a fair amount of time there just hanging out.

Milk in a bag...:-)

The kids' favorite part about the resort was, of course, the pool.  It had an indoor an an outdoor section, and we took advantage of both!  The kids wanted to swim almost every day (sometimes twice).

Relaxing by the pool

The temperature varied wildly from day to day, and it wasn't always practical to use the outdoor section of the pool.  You would think that a foot of snow would be a deterrent, anyway...

We also checked out a couple different playgrounds, and they actually had some pretty unique pieces of playground equipment that the kids really enjoyed.

This digger and spinny thing were 2 of the favorites

We went to a play called "In Play"...which is basically an arcade with a big indoor playground.  We had the place pretty much to ourselves since the area schools didn't have off.  We ate expensive gross food, and the kids had a blast running around.

Right after that we headed out to go bowling.  There was some impressive technique going on, let me tell you.

We also went to a glow in the dark putt putt place, but...it was in the dark...so we only have one picture.

On the way home, we stopped at the Ontario Science Center.  Apparently I haven't taken those pictures off of Duane's phone yet, so there will be a post coming soon!

Blending our Home

Jonas and I moved in with Duane, Brynn, and Bransen Saturday after the wedding.  We had fun setting up the kids new rooms and organizing some of our things.

Duane built Jonas and Bransen super cool new bunk beds.  They had fun playing some kind of "throw the stuffed animal" game.

Brynn trying out her bed in her new room.

We only had one meltdown (Jonas - involving stuffed animals).  I would say that is a pretty successful first night all together in our new home.  It was great to have all the kids with us to be able to read stories, pray, and get ready for bed together.

On Sunday, we moved the rest of things from the apartment and had everyone out to our house for dinner and an Easter egg hunt.  We are so busy in the next few weeks that this was the only time we could all get together for Easter!

The kids all found TONS of chocolate eggs (we're actually still finding some!), and had a great time running around the house together.  They spent a pretty good amount of time playing outside before and after the hunt.  What a beautiful day (and another successful bedtime)!

Monday night was just Jonas, Duane, and I.  Jonas and Duane bonded over some tractor playing!

Squeak made it home from his visit in my Kindergarten room on Tuesday.  Jonas took a little nap with him on the drive home from school.

Tuesday, Brynn managed to yank out another tooth!  If you know Brynn, you know she can't stand to have a loose tooth in her mouth and she gets it out pretty quick!  Another visit from the Tooth Fairy!

These first few days have been great.  It is so awesome to have us all together, under one roof, for more than 1 day!  We know that there will be many things to overcome in the next several months and years, but I am truly thankful for the gift of my new husband, step-son, and step-daughter.  I am thankful for the fact that all our kids get along so well, and that I having a loving, supportive husband.  Thanks for sharing in some of our first memories of sharing our new home together!

Introducing our New Family!

Duane and I got married on April 5th, 2014.  We shared in a beautiful wedding ceremony and the kids were a major part of our special day.  We hope you will continue to check in here to see our kids grow!
